Miffy

Created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna in 1955, Miffy has become one of the world's most recognisable and beloved children's characters.  Known for her simple design, gentle personality, and minimalist style, Miffy was originally inspired by a rabbit Bruna saw during a family holiday.  Her clean lines, soft colours, and expressive illustrations helped define a timeless look that continues to appeal to both children and adults alike.

Over the years, Miffy has appeared in books, television series, toys, and collectables, becoming an icon of modern Dutch design and childhood nostalgia.  Miffy soft toys are especially popular thanks to their comforting feel and instantly recognisable appearance, making them perfect for gifting, collecting, or everyday companionship.  Combining playful charm with classic design, Miffy remains a favourite across generations worldwide.

Miffy has remained a timeless favourite for decades thanks to her instantly recognisable design and gentle, comforting personality. Originally created by Dutch illustrator Dick Bruna, Miffy was designed using simple shapes, bold outlines, and carefully chosen colours to help young children easily recognise emotions and expressions. This minimalist approach became a defining feature of Bruna’s work and helped transform Miffy into a globally recognised icon of children’s design.

Beyond books and television, Miffy soft toys have become especially popular with collectors, parents, and design enthusiasts alike. Their soft textures and clean styling make them ideal nursery companions, thoughtful gifts, and decorative pieces for modern interiors. Many fans are drawn to the calming simplicity of the character, which feels just as relevant today as it did when first introduced in the 1950s.

One of the most frequently asked questions about Miffy is whether the character is a rabbit or a bunny. Officially, Miffy is a little rabbit, known as “Nijntje” in Dutch, which translates to “little bunny.” Another common question is why Miffy only has a simple mouth and eyes. Dick Bruna believed minimal facial features encouraged children to imagine emotions for themselves, helping develop creativity and emotional connection.

Today, Miffy continues to bridge generations, combining nostalgic charm with timeless Scandinavian and Dutch-inspired design that appeals to both children and adults worldwide.
